Tower Jazz is a free summer music series that celebrates jazz music at Tower Square (13th and P). This year's outdoor concerts will be held on Tuesday evenings from 7 PM to 9 PM and will focus on established as well as up and coming local talent.
July 7th - Darryl White Trio
Darryl White – associate professor of trumpet at UNL and one of Nebraska’s best trumpet players in a wide variety of styles. Regularly featured in the UNL Faculty Jazz Combo, Jazz in June, and many other local & statewide venues and concert series. Leads his combo, the Darryl White Trio.
July 14th - Brian Saxkeys Holland ft. Tha Jazzy Truth
Brian Holland is a renowned saxophonist, known for unleashing smooth saxxy sounds while emulating your favorite hits.
Brian is a recording artist who studied under the direction of well-known jazz artist, Preston Love, Sr. and Chuck Miller.
Brian has shared the stage with numerous national and local musicians. In 2012 Brian formed the band, Tha Jazzy Truth, a powerful emotion bringing calmness, along with the smooth seductive contemporary smooth jazz sounds.
Band members include David Bailey on bass who has the ability to adjust, blend as well as lead under the most immeasurable circumstances. David is sure to please with his silky succulent sound. Gerald Butler, a Louisiana native & USAF veteran, is the keyboardist and trumpeter, has performed with various Gospel, Jazz and R&B groups across the US and Europe. Gerald has a strong repertoire of amazing chords.
Keith Mills, a percussionist since age 10 is known for his drumming skills and gospel recording artistry. Keith has the ability to add sound to the band that brings pleasure to the listeners. Keith honed his rhythmic skills with various gospel ensembles, “Front Row” & local R&B bands. A regional Gospel Recording Artist with two CD’S & videos to his credit has performed across the Midwest region under the stage moniker H.G. Filled.
DZ Woods is a local favorite and has been performing since the age of eight. He brings background vocals, lead vocals and drums not counting out the abundance of explosive energy. DZ Woods is the powerful drummer that completes the puzzle of the outstanding sounds for “THA JAZZY TRUTH”.
July 21st - The Jazzocracy
The Jazzocracy presents a palette of traditional and modern sounds, adventurous and always swinging. Saxophonist Brian Morrow organized the group in early 2007 as a follow up to the successful 2006 Wednesday Jazz series at the Zoo Bar. featured are: the notorious Brian Morrow on tenor; Trombonist Tommy Vandenberg; bassist George Bryan; Ryan Stewart on guitar; and Andrew Tyler on drums. Other special guests from the local jazz scene make frequent appearances. Every Tuesday 6pm -- no cover - the Zoo Bar - 136 N 14th
July 28th - Ed Archibald
Ed Archibald is a Jazz saxophonist with over 30 years of experience. His musical roots are a mixed bag of Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, Country and Classical music, which gives his sound a truly unique flavor. Ed has had the privilege of playing alongside Chaka Khan and as the solo opening act for Kem in 2009.He has performed on the same stage as Marcus Johnson, Everett Harp, and Nelson Rangell and has also had the honor to be the opening act for the legendary Al Green. He has appeared on the local television talent show “Jazz One” and for the last several years he has played at the popular Omaha Riverfront Jazz & Blues Festival.
